Zoup dishes out new franchise

Franchise owner Andrew Siegel was scheduled to open the 60th location of Zoup on Feb. 6, 2014.

According to Siegel, a meal at Zoup typically costs a “couple of bucks more” than what one would expect to pay at McDonald’s or Burger King, usually between $8 and $9.

“Zoup is classified as a fast, casual restaurant, serving primarily soup, salad and sandwiches,” Siegel said.

According to Siegel, Zoup will rotate between 100 varieties of soup, each day serving a selection of 12.

Senior Demi Charalab said she goes out for open lunch at least three times a week. She said the idea of Zoup really interests her.

“I’m really excited to finally have a healthy new alternative for open lunch,” Charalab said.

Customers are now able to sign up for a daily e-mail which will allow them to receive lists regarding which soups will be served that day. An app is planned to be released for smartphones so that customers will be able to place their orders prior to arriving at the restaurant.

“You can place your order, tell us what time you will be here, and we’ll be good to go,” Siegel said.

On Feb. 5, Zoup was scheduled to host a charity event to raise money for the Autism Society, according to Siegel. He said each meal that day cost $5 with 100 percent of the profit going to charity.

Zoup is located between McDonald’s and Starbucks in Plaza Del Prado on the corner of Willow and Pfingsten. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
