Log in and start bloggin’: tips on how to blog

Last year, junior Toby Klein began blogging after being inspired by her chemistry and English teachers. She now updates two blogs weekly.

Chemistry teacher Joan Gallagher began a student blogging program after listening to Konrad Glogowski, professional developer for educators, speak at an international technology conference in 2007.

Senior John Huszagh has maintained a Youtube vlog for over two years after being inspired by Youtube vlogger Tessa Violet.

Below are some tips provided from Klein, Gallagher and Huszagh for beginner bloggers and vloggers.

  • Blogging is a difficult skill that takes time to develop. When you begin to blog, post often. You can get a better feel of how the audience will react to your blogs and gain more experience.
  • Read and comment on other blogs to establish yourself in the blogging community. By doing this, you will also be exposed to more blogging styles and be presented with more learning opportunities.
  • Be open to criticism and understand that all readers are entitled to their own opinions. Open-mindedness helps you grow as a blogger.
  • Believe that you have something valuable to say, otherwise blogging will end up being a chore.
  • It may be effective to dedicate a blog to someone because it will allow readers to connect with you on a personal level.
  • The more you blog, the better content and skills will become. You always have the ability to delete old posts that don’t reflect your best work.
