Glenbrook North to host Google Apps summit

Ryan Bretag, coordinator of instructional technology

Glenbrook North is set to host a Google Apps for Education Summit on March 27 – 28. The planned summit is part of a series of conferences, which are held nationally and internationally and led by EdTechTeam, Inc. in partnership with Google, Inc.

According to Mark Wagner, president and CEO of EdTechTeam, the summit is intended to bring teachers together to facilitate learning about how to use Google Apps for classroom teaching.

“Teachers teaching teachers is probably the best way to describe it,” said Ryan Bretag, coordinator of instructional technology. “These are teachers that are utilizing similar technologies that we are using at [GBN], coming together to share ideas and grow their pedagogy.”

Targeted towards K-12 teachers from around the country, the summit is slated to include lectures and hands-on presentations by teachers and Google-certified educators, according to Bretag, who hopes to have at least 30 teachers from GBN attend.

Bretag said that GBN was chosen by a planning committee, of which Bretag is a member, to host the summit because of its progressiveness and experience with technology use in the classroom.

“It’s an honor for Glenbrook North, and we should be really proud,” said Bretag. “[The committee] could have selected any school in Illinois, and trust me, any school would have accepted [the committee’s invitation], and Glenbrook North was accepted [by the committee]. Students and teachers should be really proud.”
