Point of Fact

-Glenbrook North officially opened on Sept. 8, 1953, making 2013 the 60th anniversary. According to Principal Paul Pryma, “The formula initiated in 1953 still works today: generous families who care about education, plus passionate teachers who love the children, plus kind and inquisitive students who work together equals a learning community that smiles a lot even during challenging times.”

-Superintendent Michael Riggle discussed ways to reduce energy usage with honors biology students at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Ideas consisted of even more water fountains to increase the use of water bottles, decreasing the number of lights left on in unoccupied classrooms, and getting tighter seals for windows to prevent heat from being released. These improvements are meant to save the school more than $88,000 yearly.

-This school year marks the 20th year of the student tutoring program, the ARC. Last year, student tutors conducted over 1,800 individual writing conferences with students. Tutors can assist students with writing assignments for any class in addition to college applications and scholarships. Tutors can also aid students with active reading techniques.
