Burger Day, an annual charity event in which students gather in the parking lot outside of McDonald’s in Plaza Del Prado and consume hundreds of burgers, includes the participation of students from all age levels. On April 13, the seventh annual official Burger Day charity event is scheduled to take place at McDonald’s. The event coordinators plan to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Chicago chapter of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Junior Ryan Sterne, a Burger Day team member from Glenbrook North, said Glenbrook South and New Trier Township students also participate in the event.

Mark Freeman, owner and operator of the Plaza Del Prado McDonald’s store, said participants usually meet in the parking lot for a while to organize themselves, then they “march into the store and celebrate.”

Sterne said the 10 person Burger Day team, consisting of representatives from the three participating schools, plans on selling t-shirts prior to the day of the event itself. On Burger Day, before the burger sales, Sterne said they plan on having a “party in a parking lot” while also selling raffle tickets.

“[All Burger Day events] are special,” said Freeman. “To watch a group of younger people give an enormous amount of their time and energy to help other people, it is pretty inspiring.”
