The efforts of junior Shaina Hakimian and sophomore Grace Elisco were modeled on the runway at the April 6 North Suburban Prom Fashion Show.

Twenty-nine senior girls and their 14 male escorts modeled dresses from Cache and tuxedos from Men’s Wearhouse during the show.

The show raised money for the Northbrook Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Awareness, also known as  NCDAA.

The charity was chosen by hosts Elisco and Hakimian. Elisco and Hakimian were approached about hosting this year’s Prom Fashion Show by Robert Lozaro, Prom Fashion Show event coordinator, in January. They decided to run the fashion show after alumnus Kate Flanagan (‘13), who hosted the show last year, graduated. Elisco said they only had three months to plan what would usually take 4 or 5 months.

Hakimian said that the planning was chaotic because there were so many people to call.

“[On April 13,] [Elisco] and I spent a really long time calling people and contacting, e-mail[ing] and just trying to get this whole thing together because there’s so many different people we have to reach out to,” said Hakimian. “It’s a fashion show so so many things go into it.”

Some of those things include getting sponsors and models and dealing with models who cancel.

Elisco said it has been challenging but they managed very well.

Hakimian and Elisco were assisted by Lozaro, junior Lexie Rand, who helped gather models, sophomore Jordan Quant, who  designed the programs and tickets. Elisco said Lozaro aided in connecting Elisco and Hakimian to the local businesses that supported them.

Principal Paul Pryma also helped with the show as the Master of Ceremonies, announcing the models as they walked the runway.

The show ended with a reception in the ABC room of the North Suburban YMCA complete with food from Marcello’s and Corner Bakery and music from senior Charlie Laughlin on guitar.
