Letter to the students: Step it up, Spartans

For the past four years, we’ve walked the halls with you. We’ve been on teams with you, we’ve worked on projects with you, we’ve gone with you on countless unplanned weeknight adventures.

We’ve talked about the things you love, and we’ve talked about the things you hate. You’ve never once hesitated to complain about how much early bird gym stinks or how irritating it is to have three tests in one day of school. But when the time comes to do something about it and actually make a difference at GBN, why do you fall silent?

In the eight issues of Torch that have been published this year, we’ve had a total of (find out how many) letters to the editor. This is truly disappointing. With such an intelligent and accomplished student body, we’re astounded by the lack of interest you have shown in publicizing problems you encounter in the building every day.

Writing a letter to the editor doesn’t just tell the student body you’re annoyed about something. Writing a letter to the editor brings an issue to everyone’s attention and can help start a movement to change things about the way the school works.

So the next time you see something in the halls of GBN that strikes a nerve, don’t just turn to your neighbor and talk about how irritating it is. Put your pen to paper and write a letter that could change the school as we know it.

Raise your voices. We’re eager to hear them.
