Why not try the ukulele

My family lacks musical talent. I don’t mean we sing off-key or have trouble keeping a beat — I mean when we sing there is no key, and our rhythm is nonexistent.

My relatives were right when they said I’d be the same: tone deaf, rhythmically challenged and with a singing voice similar to the noises uttered by a dying cow. So, even though I enjoyed it, I never sang for anyone.

Over time, that began to change. I started singing along with the car radio, becoming louder and more confident in myself with each song.

Despite my newfound confidence, there was still no newfound talent. However, I knew there were still opportunities for me in the music world. So I picked up a ukulele.

Playing the ukulele isn’t quite the same as singing, but it is musical. Since music is an art form I never thought I’d be a part of, I love being able to pull out my instrument and strum a tune.

So, take it from me. Even if you’ve been told you don’t have the genes, guts or talent, there still might be a ukulele out there for you.
