In order to establish Glenbrook North’s top five sports moments of this calendar year, a list was compiled of various significant sporting events. Varsity head coaches were given the opportunity to submit moments they felt should be considered. Each sports editor and the Editor-in-Chief ranked all of the suggested moments and the results were averaged to form the final list below.
5. Boys tennis places sixth in state
After defeating Glenbrook South to win the sectional title, the boys tennis team sent two singles and two doubles teams to state from May 29 to May 31. The doubles team of then juniors Miguel Perez and David Zakhodin reached the quarterfinals, helping the tennis team place sixth in state.
4. Girls lacrosse reaches elite eight
Finishing the regular season with a 16-3 record and winning playoff games against Evanston and Glenbard West, the lacrosse team played New Trier in the supersectional on May 30. 3. Hockey team finishes as state runner-up
A trip to the United Center by the hockey team set up a rematch of the 2013 state final against New Trier. On Jan. 25, then junior Corey Kahen won the individual sectional for bowling after finishing with a total score of 1,475. In his fourth of five games, Kahen bowled a 300, a perfect score in bowling.
