Sweet Ride’s pink and teal food trucks, complete with ombré fire streaks up the sides, have parked in Northbrook.
“It’s a very outgoing, expressional truck,” said owner Lupita Kuri. “I knew that when I was buying [the truck] it had a statement to it. You can’t take it very seriously. If someone’s walking up to a bright pink flaming truck, how can you be mad?”
Sweet Ride is a food truck and pop-up window that sells a monthly rotating menu of baked goods. The pop-up’s menu typically features Sweet Ride’s signature cupcakes, cookies, whoopie pies and cinnamon rolls. The desserts range from $3.50 to $6.
The pop-up window is located on 1526 Shermer Road and is open one Saturday and Sunday per month. It is scheduled to be open March 16 and 17.
Sweet Ride’s trucks can be rented for events and catering. When booking a truck, customers can build their own menu from a catering menu listed on the company’s website.
Kuri receives requests for truck rentals through the Sweet Ride website, Instagram and Facebook.
Kuri’s inspiration for Sweet Ride began while flipping through TV channels.
“I came across ‘The Great Food Truck Race,’” said Kuri. “It really got my wheels spinning.”
Kuri noticed there were not many food trucks in Chicago and imagined running one, which sparked her inspiration for Sweet Ride.
After baking for her business in a shared bakery space, Kuri decided to open the pop-up in Northbrook because of the location’s convenient access to highways and proximity to other suburbs where the company receives orders.
What Kuri loves most about Sweet Ride is the impact she can make on her customers through her desserts.
“People aren’t … just getting cupcakes,” said Kuri. “People get really excited. They get really happy. Grown-ups turn into little kids again.”
