In the annual Central Suburban League Art Exhibit, the art department is displaying student artwork from the honors and AP level art classes. The 12 participating CSL schools will also have their artwork shown.

The exhibit provides an opportunity to demonstrate the art department’s philosophy of selecting many types of pieces, not only those that would be considered “amazing,”art teacher Lee Block said.

The Art Center in Highland Park is hosting the exhibit as well as the opening reception on April 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. From April 12 – 22, the gallery hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.

Senior Madeline Quayle’s artwork was chosen for last year’s CSL show.

“I was definitely really excited and honored to be a part of the show,” said Quayle. “There is always really amazing art in it every year, and there are so many talented people in our area. I really wasn’t expecting [to be selected], so I felt really happy.”

Block and fellow art teachers Robert Milkowski and Justin Gerbich have selected 40 to 45 pieces to be exhibited this year, Block said.

“[Former Principal Emmet James Duffy] started the show many years ago in regards to an opportunity to not have a competitive situation amongst the Central Suburban League schools,” said Block. “[The CSL show] was an answer to [the competitiveness] by bringing together the fine arts talents.”
