The Student Assistance Program, also known as the SAP, is a coalition of faculty members dedicated to supporting the social-emotional wellness of students, parents and faculty. Its outreach efforts include interactive webinars to foster parent-student bonds and the Potty Mouth, a series of informative flyers hung in bathroom stalls about prioritizing mental health in an academic context.
The SAP has collaborated with in-school organizations like the Mental Health Advisory Board. Over the years, the two have coordinated outreach endeavors for parents and students related to anxiety management, coping skills and the importance of practicing gratitude.
“The resources extend beyond SAP,” said SAP coordinator Christina Seaborg. “We’re just one part of a bigger web of support that exists in the school, and some of our work is really illuminating the different resources that already exist within the building.”
According to SAP coordinator Rebecca Rogers, the SAP welcomes student input.
Those interested in offering suggestions for the program can email the members listed on the Potty Mouth flyers.
“[Reaching] students where they’re at when they don’t want to talk to people, that’s the challenge,” said SAP member Sachiko Majoros. “If we can help be part of that solution, thenIthink we’re doing something.”
