Title awarded to soccer coach
Paul Vignocchi, boys soccer head coach, was awarded the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association Boys’ Coach of the Year Award for 2016. This is the first time a coach from Glenbrook North has won this award since 1980.
Athletic Director John Catalano said Vignocchi was nominated by other coaches in the sectional, which is comprised of 32 teams. The recipient of the award is determined by the success of the team, as well as the sportsmanship of players under their coach.
Vignocchi said he attributes the team’s success this year to the competitive non-conference schedule, the work ethic of the players and the help of his assistant coaches.
The award was announced at the IHSSCA Honors Banquet on Nov. 17, where players and coaches were recognized for their achievements in soccer.
Senior Seth Grossman said Vignocchi has pushed his players to improve both athletically and academically. A large component of GBN soccer that Vignocchi has instilled is the sense of camaraderie between players and motivation to succeed as a team.
