Athletic Hall of Fame set to launch
In April of 2018, the Glenbrook North Athletic Hall of Fame is scheduled to induct its inaugural class.
Athletic Director John Catalano said the hall of fame is a way to honor athletic contributors.
“It’s really a program where we can recognize and honor individuals or teams who have made significant contributions to the athletic department based on their commitment, based on their dedication [and] based on their talents,” Catalano said.
According to Catalano, the first induction group can include athletes, coaches and teams from any time. A committee of coaches and community members is expected to select the future hall-of-famers from a nomination form, available on the GBN website for anyone to fill out by Oct. 1.
Hall of fame inductees would be honored at the Pride Assembly each year, along with a reception and a plaque in the school.
“I’m hoping that they get a sense of the history, a sense of the past, a sense of accomplishment,” said Catalano. “[High] schools keep churning out and keep going, and they don’t pause to reflect on all the good things that have happened in their history, and I hope this is one of those things where people get a chance to reflect back, and pause and really marvel at some of the things that have been accomplished.”
