Sushi Grove offers great endless sushi deal

When I first heard about Sushi Grove’s special all-you-can-eat menu, I was skeptical. Twenty dollars for as much sushi and appetizers as I can eat? There had to be a catch.

According to Jim Gul, general manager of Sushi Grove, the fish is prepared fresh every morning, and  only good quality fish is used.

After tasting the sushi, it was clear Gul’s statements were true. I went to the restaurant on a Saturday night with two friends, and we began by choosing a few rolls and appetizers. Our sushi arrived on a huge platter shaped like a boat, which made me even more eager to taste the sushi. The food looked so appealing that we resisted the urge to eat and first snapped a picture before digging in.

We ordered a few basic yet delicious rolls like the California roll and Rainbow roll and decided to try some of the “Sushi Grove Fan Favorites,” such as the Volcano roll.

This consisted of crab, spicy mayo and cucumber, with crunchy tempura on top, which added the perfect amount of crispiness. Although the mayo was not very spicy, it gave the roll a bold flavor.

My personal favorite was the Super Spicy roll. It had tuna, avocado, masago and a little crunch because the roll was deep fried. The two “super spicy sauces” on top added a flavor that was just hot enough to handle.

For those who do not eat raw fish, this deal is still worth it because the appetizers were just as good as the sushi. The steaming hot chicken fried rice was delectable, and biting into the crispy wonton crab rangoon wrap overflowing with warm cream cheese and crab meat is something I could do for every meal of every day.

Although the food was delicious, we did have to wait 20 minutes to be seated, but this could be because we did not make a reservation, and Saturday night is a popular time to dine.

The staff was very friendly, but the service was rather slow, and we had to wait a while before being helped.

The interior design may be a bit questionable with large drawings of sumo wrestlers, tacky light-up icicles hanging on the walls and a scratched up wood floor, but the mood was fun as customers laughed and talked with some of the latest pop hits playing in the background.

According to Gul, Sushi Grove has only been around for a year, but I am hoping it stays open for a long time because there is no other sushi restaurant where I can get as much food as I want at such a low price.
