Most underrated at GBN: Appreciate the little things in life

As students at Glenbrook North, we have a lot to be thankful for. But sometimes the little things that make this school that extra bit better go unnoticed and unappreciated. Throughout my four years here, I’ve learned to appreciate and take advantage of all those underrated amazing aspects of GBN, such as…

The water fountain by the field house. It has the best water pressure, temperature, water height and taste.

The secret staircase connecting the ERC and MRC. This is by far the most convenient and creepiest staircase in the school.
Sully. She goes above and beyond to look out for this school and the students she gets to know, and deserves so much gratitude.

Smiley face cookies in the cafeteria. Not only are they huge but also cheap and delicious.

Having class outside. It’s awful to sit in a class surrounded by brick walls while the sun is beaming outside. So teachers, take your students to the courtyard to enjoy nature!

The art hallway. The artwork in this hallway is hugely unacknowledged. Don’t ignore it, students put a lot of effort into their projects and there are so many breathtaking pieces.

Scatterball. Who doesn’t love this classic gym game?

Pooping at school. Some people suffer through class all day embarrassed to let it all out at school, but don’t be!

Wearing pajamas to school. It’s the best feeling rolling out of your bed, heading straight to school and then staying comfy the rest of the day.

The CPA catwalks. One of the best moments of my senior year was sneaking onto these catwalks. There are tons of secret spots at GBN (like the underground tunnels) that you have to experience before leaving the school.

All of these are just a small compilation of what makes me smile throughout the day. So find those little hints of joy that brighten up your day. Wake up to watch Boy Meets World on ABC Family before school starts. Take extra desserts at pasta parties. Spend a few minutes chatting up Helen the parapro. Have your group of friends make a GBN bucket list. Or venture out to the water fountain by the field house. Acknowledge and gain an appreciation for  everything you take for granted, and continue enjoying the little things in life.
