As the school year comes to a close and we look back on the past year, it is important to realize all that our school has to offer. Below are a few things we as students should be more appreciative of and show gratitude for before the school year ends.
Art in the hallway
Throughout school, we have the chance to see the artwork created by current and past students. Being surrounded by students’ artwork gives us the unique opportunity to find our own meaning.
Custodians
The custodians keep our school clean and ensure that it is a pleasant learning environment. They go above and beyond for us by staying late for various activities or changing when and where they clean so they don’t inconvenience students.
Glenbrook School Health Center
We’re fortunate to have access to free medical and mental health care at the center. These services, along with the free shuttle that transports students to the center, provide us with easy access to necessary wellness resources.
Librarians
From creating unique book displays and giving out free books to setting up new puzzles, the librarians work hard to engage us. We are grateful for their endless creativity and patience when assisting students with research and finding something new to read.
Paraprofessionals
Paraprofessionals take the time to greet us in the morning, learn our names and ask about our days. We appreciate their efforts to keep us safe, including watching entrances during school and directing traffic before and after school every day.
Resource center staff
The staff in the Math Resource Center reinforce the material we learn in class, and tutors in the ARC assist us with various writing-based projects. Staff members and peer tutors in both places ensure students get the support they need and are always available to offer a helping hand.
Substitute teachers
Substitute teachers have big shoes to fill every time our teachers are absent. By offering new perspectives and experiences, they engage us and help keep our classes on track so we can continue learning.
Conclusion
Take the time to look around and acknowledge what we often take for granted. We should all find something we appreciate today and say “Thank you.”
