The girls badminton team won the sectional tournament and placed first on May 4 at Glenbrook North. Senior Jade Huang won first place in singles and junior Sydney Stachovic and sophomore Vivian Zhao won first place in doubles. All six girls who played at sectionals qualified for the state final tournament.

Stachovic and Zhao’s playing styles compliment each other well, and they know how to work around each other very easily on the court, Stachovic said.

The girls badminton team is 10-1 and 4-0 in conference as of May 11.

Head coach Tiffany Kim received the IHSA Badminton Coach of the Year Award for the 2021-2022 season, during which she led her team to a conference record of 11-1 and a win at the CSL South Division conference.

“I did win the award, however, I owe the award to my players,” said Kim. “Their hard work and all their accomplishments and achievements is what brought our school name as one of the top competitors in the state. I wouldn’t have won this award if it wasn’t for my girls working hard to get this program to where it is today.”

The team expects 10 players to return to varsity next season, losingonly two playersfrom this year’s team to graduation.
