Boys soccer
The boys soccer team finished this season 13-4-6, with a record of 2-2-1 in conference. After a win in the regional semifinals, the team’s season ended with a 2-1 loss against New Trier in the regional finals on Oct. 21.
In a game against Glenbrook South on Sept. 20, Glenbrook North was down 3-1 at halftime, but won 4-3 after scoring three goals in the second half.
“The boys were very upbeat,” said head coach Paul Gibbs. “It took them about two hours to get off the bus because they were celebrating.”
The team faced GBS for a second time in the regional semifinals, winning 4-0 on Oct. 18.
Senior Vicente Sabbione scored a total of 19 goals with 13 assists and had the only hat trick of the season against Maine East in a 6-1 win on Sept. 6.
Senior Max Bachenheimer, one of the team’s three captains, had four clean sheets in goal.
“Another very unrecognized, unsung hero in my eyes is [midfielder] Sam Lappin,” said Gibbs. “He very rarely ever comes off the field. The kid gives it his all. I’d love to have a GPS tracking device on his neck to see how much he runs in a game.”
